SUPERSENSE created design for ‘Tracey Moffatt: My Horizon’, Australia’s representation at the 2017 Venice Biennale. We worked closely with the artist to develop a design that communicated the exhibition's intention. Moffatt’s practice of twisting simple narratives, subverting stereotypes, and exploring the human condition informed the design.

We also designed filmic, billboard-inspired signage pieces for the eastern and western facades of the Australian Pavilion, creating a dialogue with the facade video windows featuring excerpts from Moffatt’s video works.
SUPERSENSE was responsible for developing a signature publication to accompany the exhibition design, featuring a self-portrait of Moffatt on the cover. We designed a range of accompanying exhibition materials, including invitations, guidebooks, packaging, an app for donors, and a signature tote bag featuring the artist, which became a must-have during the Venice Vernissage.

The design drew inspiration from Film Noir title screens and the cinematic lighting of Moffatt’s works. The colour palette evoked visions of distant places, reminiscent of vintage travel posters, immersing viewers in Moffatt’s world of dreams and memories.
It was an incredible privilege to collaborate with one of Australia’s most prominent artists and create a design that captures the essence of the artworks displayed. SUPERSENSE travelled to Venice to install environmental graphics and signage in the Australian Pavilion, designed by DCM Architects.
